25-yr-old Chime afamefuna has escaped death after he attempted to commit
suicide by drinking rodenticides popularly called rat poison in a
school but was rescued by some officers of the Nigerian Legion Corps of
Commissionaires in Enugu who took him to the police clinic where he was
treated.
The officers had went to the school for
their weekly training/parade.Chime had left a note before he swallowed
the poison and was lying lifelessly in his vomit residue before the
officers stumbled on his body and rushed him to the hospital. An address
was written on the suicide note and some officers went to the address
where a woman,Gloria,Chime's aunt resided. She also reportedly sponsored
Chime's secondary education before he took to his heels and left the
house.Chime's mother was said to have died shortly after his younger
brother was born and Gloria was responsible for Chime and his brother's
well being. She however did not hold back her frustrations at Chime's
lawless acts, one that has made him see the inside of prison cells before
he eventually ran from home and started living ghetto life. She however
said her arms are open if Chime will turn a new leaf and come back home.
Ekoh-Clement,the man who saved Chime revealed that Chime might have
been exposed to cultism due to his street method of living and he
believes Chime needs, rehabilitation and counseling. The police are still
deciding if he should be charged to court or consider other
terms.Meanwhile, the police are the one footing the bills of Chime's
hospital bills.
